[ Study Plan Overview ]

Core idea: Phase-wise, adaptive, mock-driven, not a static calendar.

Phase 1 (Months 1–3): Foundation + baseline diagnostic.

Phase 2 (Months 4–6): Adaptive intensification + weekly mocks.

Phase 3 (Months 7–exam): Mock frequency + strategy lock-in.

CAT 2026 Study Plan: Phase-Wise, Adaptive & Free

A static timetable assumes everyone learns at the same speed. An adaptive engine knows mastery is non-linear. This plan is built for the 70/20/10 priority rule: Arithmetic & Algebra first, then Geometry/Number System, then niche topics, with adaptive practice keeping you in the growth band.

Phase 1: Foundation (Months 1–3)

Months 1–3 of a CAT 2026 plan are pure coverage: no section left untouched, Arithmetic and RC first, with untimed accuracy targets and a diagnostic-baseline mock so later phases know which gaps to close.

Goal: Coverage + baseline. No section left untouched.

  • Diagnostic full mock in week 1; log section strengths without ego.
  • QA: Arithmetic first (Percentages, Ratio, TSD, Time & Work, P&L), then Algebra basics.
  • VARC: Daily RC habit (editorials / long-form); VA types twice weekly.
  • DILR: Basic graphs, arrangements, simple sets, focus on reading constraints fully.
  • 2 sectional tests per section each week; light adaptive drills on misses.

Phase 2: Adaptive Intensification (Months 4–6)

Months 4–6 shift to accuracy in the growth band: adaptive practice replaces blind volume, weak-topic blocks run at 70–85% target accuracy, and weekly sectionals lock attempt order.

Goal: Accuracy in the growth band. Adaptive practice replaces blind volume.

  • One full mock most weeks + deep analysis (see mock analysis framework).
  • QA: Geometry + Number System + Modern Math; revisit Arithmetic under time.
  • DILR: Hybrid sets, games & tournaments, multi-set selection practice.
  • VARC: Inference-heavy RCs; strict fact vs judgment discipline.
  • Spaced retest of tagged errors at 3 / 7 / 14 days (AdaptHub SRS queue handles this).

Phase 3: Mock & Refinement (Months 7–exam)

From month 7 to the exam, no new heavy topics: two mocks per week with same-day analysis, sectional-cutoff drills, and temperament work so exam-day execution matches practice accuracy.

Goal: Exam temperament + sectional cutoffs. No new heavy topics.

  • Two full mocks per week when energy allows; never skip analysis.
  • Sectional strategy lock-in: attempt order, skip rules, time checkpoints.
  • Only high-ROI revision: weak topics from the error log, not the whole syllabus.
  • Sleep, light review, and confidence calibration in the final week, no new heavy topics.

Working professionals: Compressed 6-month variant

Working professionals can compress CAT prep into 6 months by collapsing foundation into 3–4 high-intensity weeks, then alternating mock weeks with pure remediation. Adaptive platforms protect scarce hours by refusing to spend them on already-mastered content.

Collapse Phase 1 into 3–4 weeks of high-intensity Arithmetic + RC + basic DILR, then alternate mock weeks with pure remediation. Only use this path if diagnostics show a workable baseline; otherwise extend foundation. Adaptive platforms help because they refuse to waste your scarce hours on already-mastered Level 2 items.

How AdaptHub makes the plan adaptive

AdaptHub rebuilds the daily focus from your accuracy and error tags instead of a static calendar, so the plan always trains today's weakest link. It is free.

Study Plan FAQs

What is a good CAT 2026 study plan length?+
Most first-time aspirants do well with 6–10 months. A compressed 3-month plan can work for strong baselines or repeaters if mock analysis is strict. Working professionals often succeed with a 6-month plan of 2–3 focused hours on weekdays plus longer weekend blocks.
When should I start full-length mocks in my study plan?+
Take one diagnostic mock early. Build concepts with topic and sectional practice, then move toward roughly one full mock per week in mid prep and two per week closer to the exam, always with same-day or next-day analysis.
Can I follow a CAT study plan without coaching?+
Yes. Pair a phase-wise plan with standard books, free PYQs, and an adaptive practice engine so difficulty stays personalised. See our guide on preparing for CAT without coaching for the full free stack.
How many hours per day for CAT 2026?+
Quality beats raw hours. Many successful plans use 3–5 focused hours daily for students and 2–3 for working professionals, with weekly mock/analysis blocks. Track quality sessions (high focus, logged errors) rather than seat time alone; see why in our analysis of Practice Streaks vs Study Hours, or check how AdaptHub tracks this via the Practice Streaks system documentation.
