CAT Quant Strategy 2026: Arithmetic First

Quantitative Aptitude rewards topic prioritisation and attempt selection inside 40 minutes. What Quant actually tests

CAT Quantitative Aptitude covers four buckets: Arithmetic at roughly 35–50% of the section, Algebra at 25–35%, then smaller shares for Geometry and Mensuration, and Number System with Modern Math (independent estimates from recent papers, not a fixed split). Priority follows weightage, not syllabus order.

  • Algebra (~25–35%): Equations, Inequalities, Functions, Logs, Indices, Surds, Sequences, Maxima/Minima.
  • Geometry & Mensuration: Triangles, Circles, Quadrilaterals, Coordinate Geometry, 2D/3D Mensuration.
  • Number System & Modern Math: Divisibility, Remainders, Factorials, PnC, Probability, Set Theory.

Strategy: Arithmetic First, Always

Percentages, ratios, time-speed-distance, time and work, profit and loss, and mixtures carry the most marks in QA, so they are practiced first under adaptive difficulty. Non-engineers should exhaust easy and medium Arithmetic and Algebra before opening LOD-3 Geometry.

Algebra as the second engine

Non-engineer path (first 8–10 weeks)
